I was a regular blood donor for several years, living life, in my thirties. Things were good. One day I got a call that my Dad was in hospital. He had been bleeding internally and needed a blood transfusion to save his life. In all the time I had been donating, I never considered that someone I love might need a life saving blood product. We think we are immune to tragedy. I am very happy to say that my Dad survived and we got to have a few more years with him. I cannot thank blood/plasma/etc. donors enough. I remember tearfully writing a thank you card and mailing it to CBS. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You bought my family and I more time with my Dad and that is priceless.
