While in the middle of receiving chemotherapy and treatment for leukemia, Abigale asked financial donors to help celebrate her seventh birthday by donating to Canada’s Lifeline. Many people helped make that wish come true, some even sent Abigale a birthday card with their financial donation.

Art auction supports patients and honours remarkable spirit
The late Ellen Ayako Anderson was a remarkable artist and activist. She was also a blood and platelet recipient. This year, to honour her legacy, her family auctioned some of the art she inspired with proceeds supporting Canada’s Lifeline as part of a community fundraiser.
How will my donation help?
Financial gifts support our work in five key areas: blood, plasma, stem cells, organs and tissues and research and innovation
Blood
More than half of Canadians will need blood at some point in their lifetime. Your gift will help educate and recruit the next generation of donors, helping us to meet the ever-increasing demand. You’ll also help to modernize our collection centres, making the donation process go as smoothly as possible and keeping donors coming back to help even more patients.
Plasma
Across Canada, as the number of illnesses that can be treated with plasma-derived protein products continues to rise, your support can help transform the lives of patients with immune disorders and rare and genetic conditions. Your financial gifts will help us to recruit more plasma donors thereby increasing plasma collection nationally and helping patients in need of life-saving therapies.
Stem Cells
Every year, hundreds of patients across Canada need lifesaving stem cell transplants – and most must rely on the generosity of an unrelated donor. Your financial gifts help make more matches, faster, by supporting the recruitment of new volunteer donors from diverse backgrounds to Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry and Cord Blood Bank.
Organs and tissues
This year, hundreds of Canadians will die waiting for an organ transplant, when a single organ donor could save up to eight lives. When you donate financially, you will help us lead collaborative work aimed at strengthening the organ and tissue donation and transplantation system in Canada.
Research and innovation
Canadian Blood Services drives world-class innovation in transfusion and transplantation research through our Centre for Innovation. Your support will help us meet the needs of tomorrow by helping our team of researchers and partners engage in innovative research that will have an impact for generations to come.

Fundraising FAQs
Do you run door-to-door fundraising or door knocking campaigns?
Canadian Blood Services does not ask for financial support from the public through door-to-door, street fundraising or telemarketing solicitations.
If you would like to notify us of suspected fraudulent fundraising activities in your community, please contact philanthropy@blood.ca or call us toll-free at 1-888-2-DONATE.
Why does Canadian Blood Services need to fundraise?
Financial gifts help save lives. Canadian Blood Services receives operational funding from the provincial and territorial ministries of health (except Quebec). Charitable donations supplement this funding and help us provide better outcomes for Canadian patients.
Where do I send my financial donation, or how can I contact you?
Donations can be made online, by mail (1800 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, ON, K1G 4J5) or by contacting 1 888 2 DONATE and asking for the Philanthropy Department.
Individuals interested in starting a crowd-funding campaign can do so as well.
What is your policy on administrative costs?
Canadian Blood Services will direct no more than 20% of financial donations to cover administrative costs.
What is your Charitable Registration and official name?
Our official legal name is Canadian Blood Services and our charitable registration number is 87015 7641 RR0001.
Will I receive a tax receipt for my gift?
As a registered charity, Canadian Blood Services issues charitable tax receipts for all eligible financial donations.
