For 20 years I have been relying on the generosity of plasma donors. I was born with a genetic immune deficiency but it wasn’t until my 40s that the repeated infections became life threatening. I was hospitalized with pneumonia 4-5 times a year, often for weeks at a time. My lungs were failing. Then I started treatment with a plasma product that provides me with antibodies from healthy donors. I had an iv infusion every two weeks in a hospital for many years and then, two years ago, I learned how to administer the product weekly at home.
