On May 3rd I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). I was a hockey player and coach for younger girls. I also enjoyed time with my family and my animals. I am also the biggest Taylor Swift fan ever. The day I entered the hospital I was immediately receiving blood and platelets, my platelet count being six. My AML was high risk and I was advised I needed to have a bone marrow transplant that took place at Sick Kids Toronto. Before my transplant I did three rounds of chemo at CHEO and finished with a fourth one in Toronto to prepare for my transplant. I received blood and platelets over 100 times throughout my journey. My stem cell donor was an anonymous donor. Being an only child meant I had no full family matches. Luckily my mom (Debbie) has an identical twin sister who has daughters making them both a half match towards me. I also was given the option to go with a 10/10 match from an anonymous donor. In the end I chose to let the choice be picked randomly. I am now spending my time at home in Portland, ON with my cat, chickens, mom and, dad. I am 18 years old and will be attending Nipissing University in the fall of 2024.
