WalterFedy, an integrated design firm offering architecture, engineering and construction management, formalized their involvement with Canadian Blood Services in 2010. Community Building is an integral part of who they are and is engrained in their culture, and as such, they encourage and support their employees in giving back to their community. As members of the Partners for Life program, WalterFedy employees give back by making regular bi-monthly blood donations at clinics in and around Waterloo Region.

This year, WalterFedy was integral in making Kitchener-Waterloo’s inaugural Engineering Challenge a great success. In January and February, local engineering firms challenged each other to see who could get the largest percentage of their workforce donating blood, as well as encouraging new donors to come out and give. To kick off the competition, WalterFedy brought in speakers and hosted a What’s Your Type? lunch and learn. By rallying other organizations through their own contacts and social media, WalterFedy helped Canadian Blood Services collect 88 donations from Kitchener-Waterloo engineering firms. On top of that, WalterFedy employees came out in high numbers to donate – 1 in 5 staff members donated blood in those two months – demonstrating their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility in the community.
