Tom Henley
Tom Henley is exceptionally generous with his time and energy. His community service inspired the town of Berwick, Nova Scotia to name him volunteer of the year in 2006.
Tom first donated blood as a university student and became a regular donor until a medical condition forced him to stop just shy of 50 donations. Still keen to help, he began organizing donation events at the local Lions Club, where he also serves on the board of directors. Tom promotes each event on social media and delivers posters all over town. He also lines up volunteers, sets up the hall and arrives early to welcome Canadian Blood Services staff.
“I’m motivated to help the community,” says Tom. “By helping to organize the events, it gives me that satisfaction that I am actually doing something important, because blood is such an essential product.”
