Kathy M. Austin
Alberta, Saskatchewan, and North West Territories
Kathy first began giving blood following the death of her father as a way to connect with the community, make a difference, and inspire others.
Today, in addition to being a blood donor, Kathy is a strong promoter of the blood system in local media. For example, during Calgary’s holiday campaign launch, despite snow and below -40 temperatures, Kathy arrived at the clinic to make her 109th donation and participate in Canadian Blood Services’ media event.
Despite everyday challenges associated with being legally blind, Kathy shows no signs of slowing down, nor does she let anything get in the way of her taking the time to donate. Giving blood has shown her that she can make a difference in her community – and she credits giving blood for helping her evolve into the person she has become today.
