Peacock Sheridan Group kicked off Hockey Is For Everyone month in B.C. by adopting the date of February 1 for a group donation event in Kelowna. For a wealth management company, this initiative was a strange marriage of hockey and blood donation. The connection was Kurt Jory, one of the firm’s advisors. Nine years ago, as a goalie for the Brock Badgers university men’s hockey team, Kurt suffered a life-threatening injury when his jugular vein was severed by a skate blade. Grateful to all the anonymous donors who helped to save his life, he started giving blood. He initiated the group event to encourage others to give. The event was supported by Kurt’s colleagues, friends and family, clients, local businesses, and the Kelowna Rockets hockey team, who broadcast a personal message from Kurt at games throughout the month.
