Dr. Petraszko uses her medical expertise to support Canadian Blood Services’ operational efficiency, continuing to ensure the highest-quality care for both transfusion recipients and donors. Her current favourite projects include examining the provision of HLA-matched platelets for recipients who are refractory to random donor platelets and optimizing the medical enquiry process for whole blood donor eligibility. She participates in several transfusion medicine advisory groups, including the TRALI Medical Review Group at Canadian Blood Services, and was the program director for the University of British Columbia’s Area of Focused Competency Program Transfusion Medicine from 2013 to 2017.
Brief Biography
Dr. Petraszko received her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario. She completed training in internal medicine and hematology at the University of British Columbia and a transfusion medicine fellowship with Canadian Blood Services.
